Yeast Infection Prevention - Why a Good Diet is So Important
If you suffer from chronic yeast infections and you don't take antibiotics or steroid medications, your diet may be causing an imbalance of yeast and bacteria in your body. A good diet can also boost your immune system, which will also help prevent yeast infections. For these reasons, a change in diet could be a much more important factor in preventing future Candida infections than anything else you do. Yeast loves sugar and simple carbohydrates like those found in highly processed refined white flour. At the same time, bacteria are actually suppressed in a high-sugar environment, because sugar has mild anti-bacterial properties. Sugar is often part of the brine used to cure hams for this reason. This means that a diet that includes lots of sugar and white flour will increase the yeast and reduce the numbers of bacteria – and thereby create the perfect environment for a yeast population that explodes out of control. Since the American diet is filled with sugar and white flour, and these products appear in almost every processed and prepared food we buy, it may be why so many more people are getting yeast infections than ever before.
